Pleasurewood – Firework / Move! (7”)

A kaleidoscopic 7” that pulls from Bollywood soundtracks, Italian library funk, and dusty psych grooves, Firework / Move! finds Pleasurewood digging deep and coming back with something vividly their own. You can hear echoes of Kalyanji-Anandji and R. D. Burman alongside the heavy-funk touch of Piero Umiliani and Stefano Torossi, but it’s all filtered through a woozy, crate-digger lens. “Firework” bursts open with a clattering bassline and handclap-driven groove, spiraling into a breakbeat burner loaded with Farfisa organ, wah guitar, and sun-drenched psychedelia. Flip it, and “Move!” slows things down into a moodier zone, all post-apocalyptic funk with ghostly vocals, Mellotron haze, and off-kilter textures that feel both cinematic and slightly unhinged. Limited edition and loaded with personality, this is library-inspired funk at its most imaginative, equal parts homage, experiment, and late-night soundtrack.
