Few records capture the connection between hip-hop and soul quite like Enter The 37th Chamber. Led by multi-instrumentalist Leon Michels, New York's El Michels Affair reimagine classic Wu-Tang Clan tracks as gritty, cinematic instrumentals, replacing RZA's sample-heavy production with live drums, dusty horns, haunting organs, and deep, hypnotic grooves.
The project grew out of the band's performances backing Raekwon and other Wu-Tang members, eventually leading to an entire album of instrumental reinterpretations. Tracks like “C.R.E.A.M.” and “Bring Da Ruckus” take on a whole new life, drawing on vintage soul, early reggae, and the atmospheric sound of old film scores while staying true to the dark, unmistakable character of the originals. An essential record for Wu-Tang fans, hip-hop heads, and anyone who loves the meeting point of deep funk, soul, and sample culture.
