Estonian multi-instrumentalist and composer Misha Panfilov returns with Where The Birds Fly, another wonderfully imaginative collection of instrumental music that blends psychedelic jazz, vintage library sounds, and dreamy, cinematic grooves. Known for his playful approach to composition and love of unusual textures, Panfilov builds a rich musical world filled with swirling woodwinds, twangy lap steel guitar, warm electric organ, shimmering keys, and gently propulsive rhythms.
There's a lovely sense of movement and spontaneity running through the album, with melodies drifting in unexpected directions and arrangements that seem to evolve naturally as they unfold. At times it's breezy and pastoral, at others more rhythmic and psychedelic, but there's a warmth and lightness to the whole thing that makes it especially inviting. A beautiful record for fans of Sven Wunder, library music, and adventurous instrumental sounds that reward getting lost in.
