Sven Wunder - Wabi Sabi

Swedish composer Sven Wunder draws on Japanese art, traditional folk music, and vintage jazz fusion for Wabi Sabi, a beautifully atmospheric album inspired by the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in simplicity and imperfection. Blending Japanese Min'yō melodies with jazz-rock, funk, and psychedelic textures, Wunder creates a distinctive sound that feels rooted in the past while remaining entirely his own.

The instrumentation is a big part of what makes this record so special. Airy flutes, delicate guzheng melodies, warm Wurlitzer keys, Moog synthesizers, and funky basslines come together in richly layered arrangements that draw inspiration from both traditional Asian music and European jazz. There's a wonderfully relaxed, almost meditative quality to the album, but plenty of interesting rhythmic and melodic details to discover along the way. A lovely record for fans of cinematic jazz, Japanese-inspired library music, and the more adventurous side of instrumental funk.
