The Seven Ups - Flight

Melbourne’s The Seven Ups continue to push their psychedelic instrumental sound into new territory on Flight, their sixth studio album. Building on their signature blend of Afro-funk, jazz, and heavy psychedelic grooves, the band brings motorik Krautrock rhythms, pulsing analogue synths, and a touch of cosmic disco into the mix, creating a sound that’s both hypnotic and full of energy.

Across eleven tracks, driving basslines and tight percussion provide the foundation for swirling synth arpeggios, searing horns, and melodic guitar work. Tracks like “Flight or Fight” showcase the band's incredible chemistry, while the more spacious “New Palace” and “Bottle Brush Tree” reveal a gentler, atmospheric side. It’s a wonderfully immersive record that balances dancefloor-ready grooves with more expansive psychedelic explorations. If you dig instrumental funk with a cosmic edge, there’s plenty to love here.
