Originally released in 2019, Hiding Places is a landmark album in the modern left-field hip-hop canon—an improbable pairing of two coastal outsiders that ended up shifting the trajectories of both artists’ careers. On this long-overdue 5-year anniversary reissue, the cult classic finally returns to vinyl in its original form: housed in a 12" gatefold jacket with the iconic crumbling-house cover art by Myra Musgrove and haunting photography by Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre.
billy woods is one of the most vital writers working in rap today, and Hiding Places was his most personal and exposed effort to date. It’s bleak, unflinching, and sharp as a boxcutter. Songs like “Spider Hole” and “Bigfakelaugh” read like diary entries scrawled in the margins of medical bills—meditations on mortality, memory, gentrification, and art as both lifeline and poison. “I don’t wanna go see Nas with an orchestra at Carnegie Hall,” he spits—both a shrug and a manifesto.
Kenny Segal, a veteran of L.A.’s Project Blowed and the wider beat scene, provides the perfect scorched-earth terrain for woods’ soliloquies. His production on Hiding Places is skeletal, eerie, dust-choked—spiritually descended from the abstract jazz-hop of Def Jux and Cannibal Ox, but with his own cinematic subtlety and restraint. These are beats that breathe, creak, and lurch, conjuring a sense of dread so immersive it practically functions as another narrator.
What makes this album resonate so deeply is its total refusal to compromise. It doesn’t ask for attention—it earns it. And for those willing to lean in, it rewards you with stark beauty, biting humor, and one of the most singular voices in rap laying everything bare.
This reissue includes the full album on heavyweight black vinyl with restored original cover art, gatefold packaging, and new visual work by M. Musgrove. For longtime fans, it’s the pressing they’ve been waiting for. For new heads, it’s a chance to experience one of the defining underground rap records of the 2010s the way it was meant to be heard.

Condition/Grading FAQ
We follow the Goldmine standard (S / M / NM / VG+ / VG / etc.) and grade both the vinyl and the sleeve separately when necessary. We visually inspect every record and play-grade whenever there’s doubt.
What do the grades mean?
- S (Sealed): The record is sealed and has never been played.
- M (Mint): The record is like new, with no visible light scratches or cracks. Sleeve is in pristine condition, like new.
- NM (Near Mint): Vinyl looks and plays almost like new. Cover is free of creases, ring wear and seam splits of any kind.
- VG+ (Very Good Plus: Vinyl has a few light marks, maybe some light background noise. Cover shows only very minor seam wear or a split.
- VG (Very Good); Vinyl has noticeable wear, but still plays through without skips. Cover shows signs of human handling (ring wear, creases, seam splitting, writing or markings from a price tag).
