On this long-overdue 5-year anniversary reissue, the cult classic finally returns to vinyl in its original form: housed in a 12" gatefold jacket with the iconic crumbling-house cover art by Myra Musgrove and haunting photography by Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre.

billy woods is one of the most vital writers working in rap today, and Hiding Places was his most personal and exposed effort to date. It’s bleak, unflinching, and sharp as a boxcutter. Songs like “Spider Hole” and “Bigfakelaugh” read like diary entries scrawled in the margins of medical bills—meditations on mortality, memory, gentrification, and art as both lifeline and poison. “I don’t wanna go see Nas with an orchestra at Carnegie Hall,” he spits—both a shrug and a manifesto.

Kenny Segal, a veteran of L.A.’s Project Blowed and the wider beat scene, provides the perfect scorched-earth terrain for woods’ soliloquies. His production on Hiding Places is skeletal, eerie, dust-choked—spiritually descended from the abstract jazz-hop of Def Jux and Cannibal Ox, but with his own cinematic subtlety and restraint. These are beats that breathe, creak, and lurch, conjuring a sense of dread so immersive it practically functions as another narrator.
