Chicago Underground Duo – Hyperglyph

After more than a decade of silence, Rob Mazurek and Chad Taylor return as the Chicago Underground Duo with Hyperglyph — an electrifying fusion of avant-jazz, electronics, and rhythmic experimentation released on International Anthem.

A 30-year partnership distilled to its purest form, Hyperglyph finds Mazurek and Taylor expanding their sound with deep studio layering and intuitive interplay. The record moves between primal percussion, spiritual horn passages, and dense electronic atmospheres — channeling influences that stretch from the AACM and Don Cherry to Miles Davis and Teo Macero’s studio alchemy.

Recorded and mixed by Dave Vettraino at International Anthem HQ, the album blurs lines between free jazz and electronic composition. Tracks like Click Song and the three-part Egyptian Suite pulse with raw energy, while Succulent Amber closes the record in meditative calm — a moment of reflection after the storm.

Hyperglyph is both a continuation and an evolution — a bold document of friendship, intuition, and forward motion from two artists still reshaping the edges of jazz.
