Cindy Lee’s Diamond Jubilee isn’t just an album, it’s an experience, a two-hour sprawl of lo-fi beauty, glammed-up heartbreak, and timeless pop devotion. Released in early 2024 with no fanfare, only a YouTube stream and a janky GeoCities website, the album became an underground sensation overnight. A love letter to 60 years of pop music, it effortlessly channels off-kilter melodies, southern soul warmth, FM rock bombast, shoegaze haze, and noise-pop grit into something singularly its own.

Patrick Flegel, the visionary behind Cindy Lee (and former front person of the beloved band Women), wrote, performed, and recorded nearly everything here, with only a few contributions from co-producer Steven Lind. The result is an album that sounds both massive and intimate, achingly raw yet meticulously crafted, where spectral ballads like Flesh and Blood sit next to high-drama anthems like All I Want Is You. Every listen reveals new highlights, whether it’s the hypnotic swirl of Lockstepp, the fragile melancholy of I Have My Doubts, or the dreamlike instrumental passages that feel like the closing credits of a film you never want to end.
