Cinema 3000 is the debut from London band Common Saints, a record as expansive and cinematic as its title promises. The album blends warm, textured musicality with filmic sensibilities, offering a sense of grounded hope and quiet spirituality. From the ’70s psych-folk echoes of opener “Sweet Release” to the reflective, accepting close of “Sweet Surrender,” every track carries a considered, emotive point of view.
Recorded over several years in Charlie J Perry’s home studio, Perry handles piano, drums, guitar, bass, dulcimer, percussion, and vocals, with guest contributions from Alfie Templeman and French singer Taloula. Tracks like the loose, groove-laden “C’est La Vie” are a gentle call to perseverance, while the Morcheeba-tinged “Dream On” drifts with sultry textures. Elsewhere, “Pieces of War” captures Perry’s raw, raspy voice in a moment of serendipitous laryngitis, adding a human, intimate edge.
A beautifully packaged double LP with gatefold sleeve, Cinema 3000 is a labor of love and a sonic world in itself, an album made for listening slowly, letting its melodies, moods, and textures unfold like a film in your mind.
