Soulful, understated, and full of feel — The Blues Message is a hidden gem from the Pacific Jazz catalog, pairing tenor saxophonist Curtis Amy with organist Paul Bryant in a tight, blues-forward session from 1960. It’s a record that captures the groove-heavy side of west coast jazz without sacrificing depth: swinging hard, simmering slow, and always grounded in the blues.
Amy’s tone is rich and conversational, Bryant’s organ lines warm and unhurried. The group stretches out on originals like “Searchin’” and the title track, balancing elegance and grit with classic early-’60s poise.
This is the 1992 Japanese reissue on Pacific Jazz (PJ-0009), pressed with beautiful fidelity and attention to detail. Includes the obi strip and Japanese-language insert. Cover is Near Mint, and the vinyl is NM, glossy and unplayed-looking.
A fantastic, lesser-known title for fans of organ jazz, blues-based hard bop, and the deeper corners of the Pacific Jazz catalog.

Condition/Grading FAQ
We follow the Goldmine standard (S / M / NM / VG+ / VG / etc.) and grade both the vinyl and the sleeve separately when necessary. We visually inspect every record and play-grade whenever there’s doubt.
What do the grades mean?
- S (Sealed): The record is sealed and has never been played.
- M (Mint): The record is like new, with no visible light scratches or cracks. Sleeve is in pristine condition, like new.
- NM (Near Mint): Vinyl looks and plays almost like new. Cover is free of creases, ring wear and seam splits of any kind.
- VG+ (Very Good Plus: Vinyl has a few light marks, maybe some light background noise. Cover shows only very minor seam wear or a split.
- VG (Very Good); Vinyl has noticeable wear, but still plays through without skips. Cover shows signs of human handling (ring wear, creases, seam splitting, writing or markings from a price tag).
