Hitting the airwaves in 2024, Tune In by Doctor Bionic, the second chapter in the Cincinnati’s Jason Grimez’s Terrestrial Radio series, is a slick, limited vinyl instrumental fusion that feels like flipping through a vintage radio dial packed with soul, funk, jazz, hip-hop, and reggae vibes. Grimez, a producer and former member of 90s rap group MOOD, channels his crate digging roots, using analog gear to craft tracks that hum with the warm, gritty texture of late-60s and early-70s funk records. Teaming up with Cincinnati’s finest, like guitarists Jonathan Luck Spaulding and Josh “Mojo” Cole, he builds a sound that’s both nostalgic and fresh.

The album kicks off with grooves that slink like a lowrider on a summer night, blending funky basslines and crisp drum breaks that nod to hip-hop’s golden era. Tracks shift effortlessly—some pulse with reggae’s laid-back skank, others swagger with jazz-inflected keys that dance over soulful guitar riffs. Each tune feels like a new station, from upbeat, head-nodding funk to mellow, introspective jams that linger like a late-night broadcast.
