A stunning reissue of Gal Costa’s India - a post-Tropicália masterpiece that blends folk, jazz, funk, MPB, and psychedelic rock into a lush, intoxicating whole. Originally banned by Brazil’s military dictatorship for its iconic cover, this 1973 album is now back in its full, uncensored glory thanks to Mr Bongo.
Featuring legends like Gilberto Gil, Arthur Verocai, Tenorio Jr., and Rogério Duprat, India is a high point in Costa’s catalog. From the breezy sensuality of the title track to the soul-lifting “Pontos De Luz” (famously sampled by Kaytranada), this is a deeply expressive, boundary-breaking album that still sounds ahead of its time.
This official reissue comes housed in a Japanese, high-spec gatefold sleeve with original artwork, mastered from the original tapes. A crucial piece of Brazilian music history.
