Melbourne-based trio Glass Beams return with Mahal, a brilliant distillation of the psychedelic, cross-cultural sensibilities that have defined their music from the start.

Formed around Rajan Silva, whose childhood memories of his father’s eclectic record collection and repeated viewings of Concert for George shaped his ear, the band fuses Indian classical influences with Western blues, rock, and electronica in a way that feels both timeless and immediate. Across the record, sitar lines and hypnotic percussion thread through serpentine synth textures, DIY electronics, and live instrumentation, crafting an immersive sound that feels simultaneously intimate and expansive.

Following the sold-out success of their 2021 debut EP Mirage, which drew global attention via social media, streaming, and word-of-mouth, Glass Beams have honed their live performances into extended, trance-like interpretations of their material—many of which formed the backbone of this latest session. Mahal captures that sense of ritual and exploration, a concise yet potent statement of their artistic vision: music that bridges East and West, past and present, memory and imagination.
