Go Kurosawa - soft shakes

Go Kurosawa, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and co-founder of Guruguru Brain, steps into solo territory with soft shakes, his first album created entirely by himself and, for the first time, purely for the joy of playing.

Known for his decade-long work with Kikagaku Moyo, Go turns inward here, jamming instinctively across instruments in his Rotterdam studio between January and June, letting ideas grow—or fade—one day at a time. The result is music that feels loose yet deliberate, rhythmic yet whimsical, layered yet intimate, capturing the playful spontaneity of a musician following his instincts. Tracks drift between meditative grooves, unexpected instrumental turns, and joyously improvised passages, reflecting Go’s rare ability to hear everything while never taking himself too seriously.

The record also marks a transitional moment: made in Europe just before relocating to Fukuoka, Japan, it carries the quiet longing of endings and the curiosity of beginnings, a sound to float along with it. With artwork by his partner Ao mirroring the album’s bold, exploratory spirit, soft shakes is music to dance alone in your room or wander outside while listening. It’s a personal record with universal appeal—Go playing by himself, yet making space for anyone willing to join the journey.
