Originally recorded at home on cassette in the late ’70s and early ’80s, Light Patterns captures two Manchester musicians quietly carving out their own world. While the city around them was exploding with punk and post-punk, Kevin McCormick and David Horridge leaned toward something far more meditative—an intersection of acoustic guitar, bass, gentle effects, and the occasional Moog that drifts between ambient, jazz, and psychedelic folk.
The album’s eleven tracks feel warm, spacious, and unhurried, shaped by influences like John Martyn, Alice Coltrane, Terry Riley, and Eberhard Weber. It’s music built from intuition and atmosphere: interlocking guitar lines, soft improvisation, and a sense of calm that holds from start to finish.
Originally released in 1981 on Peter Jenner’s experimental label Sheet, the record has been long out of reach. This reissue is remastered from the original tapes and brings Light Patterns back into circulation for the first time in decades. A quietly beautiful document of two artists following their own path, and a perfect album for anyone drawn to reflective, softly psychedelic sounds.
