Maya Ongaku - Electronic Phantoms

On Electronic Phantoms, Japanese trio Maya Ongaku take their organic, dream-folk roots and plug them straight into the circuitry. Inspired by a year of touring and live improvisation with drum machines and synths, the band’s second release transforms their sound into something leaner, more hypnotic, and built for movement.

Across its 29-minute run time, Electronic Phantoms hums with a soft tension between the natural and the synthetic. Tracks like “Iyo No Hito” and “Love With Phantom” shimmer with warm analog tones and noirish rhythm. The closing “Meiso Ongaku” suite drifts through forested ambient jazz, balancing introspection and pulse with cinematic grace.

Beneath its ethereal textures lies a quiet meditation on our relationship with technology. Maya Ongaku see no divide between man and machine; they seek communion through rhythm and resonance. “Love isn’t born from machines,” they write, “it comes from the heart.” Electronic Phantoms embodies that belief — music that feels alive in both body and code.
