Recorded live at the 1973 Montreux Jazz Festival, Enlightenment captures McCoy Tyner at full force—expansive, raw, and spiritually unrelenting. Backed by a powerhouse lineup (Azar Lawrence on sax, Joony Booth on bass, Alphonse Mouzon on drums), Tyner pushes the modal post-Coltrane sound into ecstatic new territory.
Across four sides, the group burns through extended explorations that move between hard-driving rhythms and moments of meditative stillness. The 24-minute title track is the album’s spiritual and emotional core—transcendent, thunderous, and unfiltered.
This is a super clean Japanese pressing from 1974 on Milestone (Cat#: SMJ-9501-2). Comes with insert (no obi), both vinyl and sleeve are in Near Mint condition—an excellent opportunity to own one of Tyner’s most powerful statements in top shape.
