Split into two side-long compositions, each clocking in at sixteen minutes, To The Mesosphere And Beyond from the Misha Panfilov Septet is a lesson in restraint, atmosphere, and group intuition. No solos for ego’s sake, no rush to impress. Just a steady, uncoiling groove that ebbs and flows in all the right ways. It’s modal jazz stretched out until it liquifies, gently folding in elements of psych, spiritual jazz, and space-funk along the way.

Recorded in just a few days in Estonia, following two spark-lit shows in Stockholm, the album carries a live, untethered energy, an honesty that can’t be rehearsed or overdubbed. Panfilov handles guitar and percussion, with a killer band rounding out the lineup: electric bass, synths, organ, flute, tabla, and horns all play their part, each one contributing to the orbit without overpowering the center.

Whether you throw it on at 2am or during a quiet Sunday drift, this record creates its own weather system, it's weightless, hypnotic, and just strange enough to keep pulling you deeper.
