A rare Belgian Latin-Afro funk masterpiece - fiery, fearless, and built for the dancefloor or deep listening.
Originally released in 1971, Ritual is the crown jewel of Belgian bandleader Nico Gomez’s wild rhythmic experiments. A seamless fusion of Latin grooves, Afro percussion, and tightly arranged funk, it’s a record that sounds like it could’ve been cut in Havana or Lagos, but was actually born in the unlikely musical melting pot of 1970s Belgium.
From the floor-shaking opener “Caballo Negro” to the immortal breakbeat classic “Lupita,” every track radiates sweat, swagger, and serious musicianship. Gomez (born Joseph Van Het Groenewoud) assembled a crack band of percussionists and horn players under the Afro Percussion Inc. name, channeling raw energy into precision funk workouts that DJs and collectors have prized for decades.
This reissue restores the original packaging, mastered from the original tape to bring the heat back to vinyl where it belongs.
