Omasta - Hits Different

Kraków-based jazz outfit Omasta return with Hits Different, the follow-up to their excellent debut Jazz Report From The Hood. Building on their distinctive mix of contemporary jazz, instrumental hip-hop, and '70s fusion, the Polish group takes things a little further this time around, introducing more electronics, spacious arrangements, and cinematic textures while keeping their signature groove-heavy sound firmly intact.

Shaped by a whirlwind year of touring and collaborations, the album captures a band whose chemistry has grown considerably through playing together. There's a strong influence from the smoky, jazz-infused beats of Detroit and Los Angeles, with tightly arranged compositions leaving plenty of room for the musicians' improvisational instincts. Conceived as a loose instrumental narrative, Hits Different moves through moments of warmth, tension, and uncertainty, giving each track its own atmosphere. A great pick for fans of Yussef Kamaal, BADBADNOTGOOD, and the intersection of jazz and underground hip-hop.
