Organic Pulse Ensemble - Ad Hoc

On Ad Hoc, Swedish composer and multi-instrumentalist Gustav Horneij leans fully into spontaneity. Recorded solo on a Tascam four-track with most performances captured in one take, the album turns imperfections into a hands-on approach Gustav calls “problem-solving on the fly.”

The result is a vibrant spiritual jazz record driven by modal grooves, layered percussion, and expressive sax and flute work. Ethio-jazz and Eastern influences weave through the arrangements, while standout moments like “Solid” bring a tighter, funk-leaning energy to the flow. Despite its raw and minimal setup, the album feels rich, warm, and deeply alive.

A co-release from Ultraääni Records and Puro Recordings pressed on black recycled vinyl with offset-printed covers, Ad Hoc celebrates the beauty of music made in the moment.
