A project that almost slipped through history, Saâda Bonaire captures a moment when disco, dub, and global pop briefly aligned in early ’80s Germany. Conceived in Bremen by DJ Ralf Behrendt, the group paired two coolly commanding vocalists (Stefanie Lange and Claudia Hossfeld) with a rotating cast of immigrant musicians, drawing on Eastern melodies, African rhythms, early drum machines, and synthetic textures. Their lone EMI single, produced by Dennis Bovell at Kraftwerk’s Cologne studio, remains a minor miracle: hushed, seductive vocals drifting through dub basslines and forward-looking electronics. This collection expands that vision, gathering the original single alongside a trove of previously unreleased recordings from 1982–85. Long shelved but never dated, these tracks still glide effortlessly onto modern dance floors, proof that Saâda Bonaire were quietly ahead of the curve.
