Big City Life is Smerz at their most focused and fully formed. The Norwegian duo of Catharina Stoltenberg and Henriette Motzfeldt pull together everything they’ve explored up to now—shadowy club beats, experimental pop, contemporary classical touches—and shape it into a record about the thrill and confusion of growing up and stepping into the world for the first time.

The album moves between trip-hop-leaning ballads, sharp electro grooves, and late-night dance tracks that carry the pulse of the club without ever falling into predictable patterns. The production is sleek but emotionally loose, full of small details that stick with you: collapsing drum breaks, drifting piano lines, and vocals that shift between deadpan delivery and quietly hopeful melodies.
