On Goodbyehouse, Danish duo Snuggle pair warm, ’90s-leaning dream pop with lyrics that cut straight through the haze. Andrea Thuesen Johansen and Vilhelm Tiburtz Strange build songs out of soft vocals, breakbeat-style drums, and blurred guitar lines, but underneath the glow is a sharp sense of emotional fatigue.
Tracks like “Sticks” and “Dust” keep things pretty on the surface while talking openly about heartbreak, exhaustion, and the small apocalypses of daily life. Johansen’s voice is the anchor: calm, clear, and slightly detached, bringing honesty to songs that could easily drift into nostalgia. The band can shift from slacker-leaning indie rock (“Sun Tan”) to darker, cello-laced dream pop (“Marigold”) without losing the throughline of bittersweet, lived-in feeling.
Even the stranger moments—rubbery basslines, off-kilter percussion, ambient passages—fit into the world they’re building. The title track adds a dose of unease, while “Woman Lake” and “Water in a pond” close things out with reflections on fleeting romance, changing seasons, and the tension between wanting stability and knowing nothing lasts.
Goodbyehouse isn’t dramatic or overblown; it’s intimate, melodic, and honest about the weight we carry. A standout for anyone into shoegaze and dream pop that favors clarity over escape.
