“Krok” — meaning step in Belarusian — marks both a new chapter and a quiet act of resilience for SOYUZ. Written after the band’s relocation from Minsk to Warsaw amidst political unrest, the album finds composer Alex Chumak shifting to his native language for the first time and expanding the group’s sound with contributions from Brazilian musicians Sessa and Tim Bernardes.
Recorded between São Paulo, Warsaw, and Stockholm, KROK blends Eastern European melancholy with elements of jazz, folk, and cinematic pop. Lush strings, woodwinds, and Rhodes keys flow through songs that feel both intimate and expansive, from the haunting beauty of “Voo Livre” to the serene farewell of “Smak žyćcia.”
It’s the most personal and refined SOYUZ record to date — a cross-continental reflection on displacement, hope, and finding home through music.
