A neon-lit journey through South-East Asia’s forgotten dancefloors.
Ayo Ke Disco (“Let’s go to the disco” in Malay/Indonesian) is a glittering time capsule of boogie, funk, psychedelic grooves, synth-pop and Hindustani-Arabic fusion sounds from 1974 to 1988 — lovingly curated by Soundway Records' Alice Whittington (aka DJ Norsicaa). Digging deep into her personal archive and uncovering gems from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines, Whittington presents 10 tracks that capture the energy, experimentation, and optimism of a post-colonial generation finding new ways to groove.
This compilation is more than just music — it’s a cultural document. The vinyl release includes a gorgeously assembled gatefold with liner notes that dive deep into the region’s music history, filled with archival photos and reflections on censorship, identity, and the legacy of independence.
Whether you're a seasoned collector of global grooves or simply chasing a rare dancefloor mood, Ayo Ke Disco is an essential listen — joyful, strange, subversive, and irresistibly funky.
