Weather Report – Mr. Gone (1978 Japanese Original Pressing)

Released at the height of Weather Report’s electric era, Mr. Gone finds the fusion pioneers leaning deeper into dense textures, layered synths, and bold rhythmic experimentation. It’s a slick, ambitious follow-up to Heavy Weather — less radio-friendly, more enigmatic — with standout performances from Jaco Pastorius, Joe Zawinul, and Wayne Shorter that veer between funk, avant-garde, and cinematic jazz.

Tracks like “Punk Jazz” and “River People” showcase Jaco at his most ferocious, while the title track pushes into sci-fi soundtrack territory with otherworldly keyboards and programmed drums. Divisive on release, but rich in detail and full of left-field ideas, Mr. Gone has aged into a cult favorite among fusion heads.

This is the 1978 Japanese original pressing on CBS/Sony (25AP1060). Includes the obi strip and original Japanese-language insert. Cover is VG+ with mild wear; vinyl is NM, glossy and unplayed-looking.
