YĪN YĪN - The Age of Aquarius

Born from the Dutch quartet’s DIY party roots and a cassette-tape epiphany blending Southern and Southeast Asian sounds, this 2022 sophomore LP catapults beyond YĪN YĪN’s debut The Rabbit that Hunts Tigers, diving headfirst into a kaleidoscope of funk-fueled beats, italo-disco thumps, and otherworldly synths. Tracks like “Chong Wang” swagger with 90s electric boogie bravado, while “Shēnzhou V.” glides through eastern pop and Harmonia-esque meditations, all layered with live percussion that feels like a Thai schoolyard jam session. “Faiyadansu” weaves Japanese koto samples, 808 drums, and Thai vocal snippets about food’s joys, creating a psychedelic soul stew that’s both cerebral and dancefloor-ready. Recorded with a playful nod to cosmic lore, this album channels the band’s road-honed energy, where crowd vibes shaped their mission to keep bodies moving.
