Brazilian singer, guitarist, and rising star Zé Ibarra returns with AFIM, his second solo album, a bold, cinematic exploration of MPB, jazz, pop, and progressive rock. Known for his work with the Latin Grammy-winning Bala Desejo and the band Dônica, and for touring alongside Milton Nascimento and Seu Jorge, Ibarra brings decades of experience into a solo context that feels intimate, yet expansive.
Across eight tracks, he balances stripped-down singer-songwriter moments with lush arrangements, incorporating sweeping strings, wind sections, and dynamic percussion. Highlights include the single “Transe,” whose comforting, Caetano Veloso–inflected rhythm and Ibarra’s intense vocal delivery immediately draw you in, and his reimagining of Sophia Chablau’s “Segredo,” transforming the punky original into a cinematic, uniquely personal statement. “Essa Confusão,” co-written with Dora Morelenbaum, ventures into epic 70s AOR territory, blending love-soaked lyrics with orchestral sophistication.
Produced alongside long-time collaborator Lucas Nunes, with contributions from a core band of accomplished musicians, AFIM reflects Ibarra’s desire to explore darker, more expansive soundscapes without ever feeling retrograde. The album captures both the warmth and complexity of contemporary Brazilian music, positioning Zé Ibarra as one of the country’s most compelling and versatile talents, a musician whose artistry bridges tradition, innovation, and pure emotional resonance.
