Sladek – Things Gotta Change

On their fourth release, Austrian soul outfit Sladek lean fully into their analog devotion and come out sharper, warmer, and more assured. Things Gotta Change builds on the breakthrough of Loveless (2024), channeling the social conscience and emotional depth of Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, and Marvin Gaye without slipping into imitation. Across ten tracks, the band balances weight and uplift, from the swelling opener “Weight of the World” to the compassionate plea of the title track and the reflective calm of “Beacon.” Flutes, vibraphones and steady, unhurried grooves give the record a lived-in glow. It’s classic-minded soul with a present-tense pulse. Highly recommended!
