On Ornithology, The Diasonics widen their cinematic funk universe without losing the precision that made their debut a cult favorite. Recorded in a former Soviet lamp factory turned studio, the Moscow five-piece lean deeper into Eastern-tinged melodies, hypnotic grooves, and analog textures. Lush synth lines, crisp drums, and Diana Greb’s ghostly vocal accents give the album a weightless feel. Bird calls around the studio and the idea of flight shaped the music’s sense of motion, pushing the band toward a looser, more expansive sound. Fans of Surprise Chef, Khruangbin, and vintage library grooves will find plenty to obsess over here: stripped-back rhythms, psychedelic edges, and that unmistakable Diasonics blend of soul, atmosphere, and cinematic swing.
