The Lahaar – The Lahaar

A sharp, groove-heavy debut from a Trans-Tasman trio linking Julien Dyne, Horatio Luna, and Surprise Chef’s Lachlan Stuckey. The Lahaar pulls from late ’70s NYC proto-rap disco, Nigerian boogie, Jamaican dub, and modern jazz-leaning house, locking them into a tight five-track run. It opens with the marimba-laced jazz-funk rush of “Doin’ It,” elevated by Mara TK’s commanding vocals, before slipping into slower, dub-soaked territory on “Step 2.” From there, the EP builds momentum again, weaving soulful tension, disco-house energy, and a final wink to classic ’70s cop-movie funk.
